HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR WRAP SKIRT
Whilst roughly compiling an article on wardrobe “essentials” I came across a severely underappreciated wardrobe piece - the wrap skirt. Unintentionally, I have rediscovered a versatile wardrobe necessity - taking me from Summer to Winter with ease.
Notorious
for its suitability to the vast majority of body shapes, my skirt is undoubtedly
on verrrrrrry high rotation without much awareness that I’d been wearing the
same garment piece repetitively.
Wanting
to show you all a few ways I manage to take my skirt from season to season, I
have compiled a few ways to rock your wrap skirt throughout the entire year.
The
great thing about having a garment that is versatile enough to transition you
throughout the seasonal changes is that you will find yourself buying less and wasting less which is a big focus of mine.
I am sick to death of the turnover in the fashion industry and the waste and I
am aiming through this blog to promote a more sustainable way of living.
I am
no saint, I also contribute to waste but my focus is to improve the waste of
our generation within the fashion industry. To help the younger generations
realise that they can make a difference and to improve the direction in which
our parents and their parents and their parents have lead the fashion industry.
The
easiest way to achieve garment versatility is to ensure the skirt has
reasonable excess. You don’t want an enormous balloon skirt that will turn you
into a fat blob once you pull it anywhere above your waist line but you also don’t
want a wrap skirt that is going to hug your knickers line either (tight skirts don’t
hide weird belly bloat so they do not fall under the versatility category for
this particular topic soz.) My most favoured skirt is the “Curly Questions” by
Australian designer label sass&bide, finding the skirt to have the perfect
ratio of volume to length. Saying that, there are numerous labels stocking
designs that are equally of value or better yet, you may already have a wrap
skirt to play around with at home. Below
I have listed the 2 simplest steps to getting the most out of your beloved wrap
skirt.
1. Layer your skirt over pants - slim, skinny and
straight legs are your BFFLS when teaming your wrap skirt for the cooler
seasons. A ragged hem on denim or a leather-look slim jean will give your look
instant edge/sass and would indefinitely be the easiest step to creating
versatility. Although wide leg pants sometimes look rad, you will have to play
around a bit more considering that there may be too much going on with the
outfit if you start to incorporate too much volume.
2. Pull it up as a strapless top - the great thing
about wrap skirts is they usually have a simple tie waistband. The waistband
will come in easy to allow you to adjust the size freely around your chest.
Wear with literally anything. The best thing about wearing strapless is that virtually
every coat looks good layered over. You can dress down your skirt-top with a
pair of denim and sneakers for the hotter seasons and quite easily pair it with
your favourite pair of denim for the cooler months. Match your
now-top-once-skirt with a groovy pair of pants or alternatively a cropped skirt,
fling on some stilettos or a cute heeled boot and you are now dinner or date
appropriate.
I love your dress drawing and would so much like to see it before your beach trip. Please do show it on post.
